Forever Thankful for the Dan Marino Era

FINS FEVER

Ladies and gentlemen, it's a thankful time of year.  And if there's one thing a Fin's fan is thankful for,

Today, in South Beach, #13 is a number deeply connected with the city.  But if we travel back to 1983, it was just a Pittsburgh kid drafted into a hot and humid city.  Dan Marino had a successful career playing quarterback for the University of Pittsburgh, landing himself at the 27th pick of the 1983 draft by the Miami Dolphins.

The legendary coach, Don Shula was in his 20th year coaching for the Fins.  And he was determined to
find the next star to replace Hall of Famer Bob Griese.  He found that man in Dan Marino.  Dan posted an immediate impact to the Miami Dolphins.  After sitting for a half, a season and showing huge promise in the second half, the 1994 season that Dan put up was actually legendary.

As a sophomore, he threw for 5,084 yards and 48 touchdowns, setting numerous passing records.  This year he also won league MVP and a trip to the Superbowl.  All at the age of 23.

Over his career, Dan Marino made 9 Pro Bowls, set almost every record at the quarterback position, was the first QB to surpass 60,000 yards, and was named to the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time team.

Dan Marino retired in the year 2000.  Leaving as a Hall of Famer, an NFL legend, and one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.

And if you we're to ask any real Dolphins fan what player they are thankful for this thanksgiving season, I bet your bottom dollar that they would say Dan the man Marino.
